Gold Lust is Oribe's flagship for repair and nourishment, developed for hair that is dry, damaged or coloured. The range is available at Stil i Lund on Klostergatan 1, where we choose the products based on your hair.
What Gold Lust is
Oribe was founded in New York by stylist Oribe Canales and is now part of Kao Salon Division. The brand is divided into collections for different needs, and Gold Lust is the one focused on repair and nourishment.
Like all Oribe products, Gold Lust is formulated without sulphates, parabens and sodium chloride, and it is safe for coloured and keratin-treated hair.
The products in the range
Gold Lust Repair & Restore Shampoo and Conditioner are the foundation. They are used together and are the first step for hair that needs rebuilding.
Gold Lust Nourishing Hair Oil is a light oil worked into the lengths and ends, in damp or dry hair. A little goes a long way.
Gold Lust Dry Heat Protection Spray is a heat protection spray used on dry hair before straighteners or a curling iron.
Who the range suits
Gold Lust is made for hair that has been through a lot: colouring, bleaching, heat tools, sun. If your hair feels coarse, your ends are breaking or it has lost its shine, this is often where I start.
If you have fine hair that is easily weighed down, or your main concern is your scalp, another collection may be right – for example Hair Alchemy for strength or Serene Scalp for the scalp. That's why we always start by looking at your hair.
How to use it
Shampoo twice if your hair is dirty or has a lot of styling product in it. Squeeze out the water, work the conditioner into the lengths and leave it for a while before rinsing.
Finish with a few drops of oil through the lengths. If you use heat tools, spray the heat protection onto dry hair first.
Gold Lust compared with the other collections
Oribe has several collections, and it's easy to pick the wrong one if you go by the name alone.
Gold Lust repairs and nourishes. Hair Alchemy is lighter and focused on strength and protection against breakage, for hair that snaps. Supershine is about moisture, shine and frizz control. Signature is the everyday essentials. Serene Scalp is care for the scalp.
Many people mix. It's common to use Gold Lust shampoo and conditioner and add a styling product from another collection.
Questions I often get in the salon
How much should I use? Less than you think. The products are concentrated, and a small amount of shampoo worked into a good lather with water is enough for all your hair.
Does Gold Lust weigh fine hair down? It can if you use too much conditioner or oil. Keep the conditioner to the lengths and start with a single drop of oil.
How often should I wash? As rarely as your hair and scalp are happy with. Damaged hair benefits from not being washed every day.
The scent and the bottle
You can't write about Oribe without mentioning the scent. The brand has its own signature fragrance that many people recognise instantly, and the bottles are made to be left on display. It's part of the experience – but what's inside is the reason I chose the brand.
