Hair colour at Stil i Lund starts with a consultation and a colour mixed for your hair – from a subtle refresh to a complete change. The salon at Klostergatan 1 in Lund does root colour, full colour, toning, highlights and balayage.
Colour or toner?
A permanent colour penetrates the hair shaft and covers grey hair. It grows out and needs topping up at the roots.
A toner sits more on the surface. It adds tone and shine, softens a transition or removes yellow tones in light hair, and it washes out gradually. I often use both in the same visit: colour where it's needed and toning to get the shade just right.

Regrowth: the most common visit
If you have a colour you're happy with, it's mostly about keeping the regrowth in check. My regular colour clients usually book root colour and a cut every six to seven weeks, and that visit takes around two and a half hours.
I only colour the hair that needs it. The lengths get toning or a gloss when needed – they don't need new colour every time.
When you want a change
If you want to go lighter, darker or change tone completely, we start with what your hair has been through. Previous colour, bleaching and home colouring affect what can be done and in what order.
Sometimes the best answer is to make the change in two steps. If so, I'll tell you before we start. If you're thinking of going lighter, I've written about the difference between highlights and balayage.
Warm or cool tone?
The most common question with a colour isn't how light or dark, but which tone. Warm tones lean towards gold, copper and honey. Cool tones lean towards ash, beige and pearl.
What suits you depends on your skin tone, your eyes and what you usually wear. But it also depends on your hair. Dark hair that is lightened naturally turns warm, and a cool tone takes more work and more upkeep to stay cool.
I always mix the colour for the person in the chair. Two people asking for the same shade rarely get the same formula.
Grey hair
Grey hair can be fully covered, softened or brought out. Full coverage gives an even result but a visible regrowth line. Softening with highlights or toning gives a gentler transition and longer between visits.
More and more people are choosing to let their grey come through. It can be done beautifully, step by step, without having to cut off all the coloured hair at once.
Before your visit
Tell me what your hair has been through: salon colour, home colour, bleaching, henna or treatments. Be honest even if it was a long time ago – it stays in the lengths and affects the result.
Bring a picture, and ideally come with hair that was last washed the day before. Allow plenty of time. A good colour can't be rushed.
How to make your colour last longer
If you can, wait a couple of days before the first wash. Wash with lukewarm water and a shampoo made for coloured hair.
Use heat protection every time you blow-dry or straighten your hair, and protect it from the sun in summer. Oribe products are colour-safe, and in the salon we choose the ones that suit your colour. Read more on the page Oribe.
Frequently asked questions
How long does a hair colour take?
Root colour with a cut takes around two and a half hours. Highlights, colour and a cut in the same visit take around three hours.
Does the colour cover grey hair?
Yes. A permanent colour mixed for your hair covers the grey, and the shade is adjusted so the regrowth is as soft as possible.
Can I have my hair coloured and cut on the same day?
Yes, most people do. Choose a combined service when you book.
